The Illuminator Z4 SFM has high-class style and modern-day tech that make for the best of both worlds.

In the planning of the Illuminator FSM models we decided to use a ¼ “ Solid Flame maple top, steam bent over a 2 piece US alder body making the total thickness 1-3/4” (44mm). This wood combination was chosen for both the visual aesthetic as well as the sonic characteristics. It has a very clear and open sound with brilliant high end, deep bass tones and fantastic sustain. We chose North Eastern US Hard Rock Maple for the neck material and we used a “C” shaped profile which measures a thickness of 53/64” (21mm) at the first fret and 55/64” (22mm) at the 12^th fret. The nut width is 1-11/16” (43mm).

The fingerboard is made of Indian Rosewood with 6mm pearloid dot inlays with 22 medium jumbo high-density nickel silver frets. We also chose 19:1 Locking Die Cast machine heads to securely hold the strings in place and for accurate tuning.

The bridge is a Full Contact system™ FCS-1 single. Steel blade bridge and individual saddle pins deliver an open, almost harp like sound with maximum tone and sustain. When all of the parts of the bridge are fastened, the bridge has the most contiguous surface to surface contact making the bridge a very effective transmitter of string vibration.

For the electronics we used a Lace Alumitone single in the neck and middle positions and a Lace Alumitone Humbucker in the bridge position mounted in a hand made wooden mounting ring. The controls offer one master volume and 3 tone controls allowing each pickup to be independently dialed into the tone you like. A 6-position rotary pickup selector switch allows for the following pickup combinations:

Position 1- Neck Pickup only

Position 2- Neck and Middle pickups are on

Position 3- Middle pickup only

Position 4- Middle and bridge pickups are on

Position 5- Bridge and Neck pickups are on

Position 6- Bridge pickup only
